Mr Stephen Charles

Mr Charles is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal surgeon with extensive expertise in the surgical and medical treatments of vitreous and retinal diseases: retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease, and macular problems (eg. macular hole, macular pucker, age-related macular degeneration, including intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy). Trained at Oxford University and the Royal London Hospital, qualifying in 1983. Specialist training in Newcastle, Cambridge (where he completed MD thesis) and Manchester, with extensive sub-specialist training in vitreoretinal surgery. Appointed Consultant in 1997. Has organised internationally recognised Vitreoretinal Fellowship programme at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital since 2000, training surgeons from as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.
