Mr Brian Leatherbarrow: Consultant Ophthalmic,
Oculoplastic & Orbital Surgeon
Mr Leatherbarrow is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon specialising in oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal surgery, as well as
cosmetic eyelid surgery (upper and lower lid blepharoplasty or eye lifts) mid-face lifts and brow lift surgery. He has almost 20 years of experience as a consultant.
Mr Brian Leatherbarrow, BSc, MBChB, DO, FRCS, FRCOphth, was appointed as consultant ophthalmic, oculoplastic and orbital surgeon at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in July 1992. His major areas of expertise are oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal surgery. He performs over 1,000 specialist oculoplastic/orbital/lacrimal operations per year including cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) mid-face and brow lifts. He has a national and international reputation for his specialist expertise.
He graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1982. He trained in general ophthalmology at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital before undertaking subspecialty training fellowships in oculoplastic and orbital surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, USA.
He was the Section Editor for oculoplastic and orbital surgery for EYE, the scientific journal of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, for over 10 years.
He has run an internationally renowned subspecialty fellowship for over 18 years training surgeons from around the world.

Mr Leatherbarrow was the founder Treasurer of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS) 2001-2006. He is the
president elect of BOPSS. He is a member of:

- British Oculoplastic Surgery Society
- European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons
- American Academy of Ophthalmology
He is also an interspecialty member of:

Publications
Mr Leatherbarrow is the author or the major textbook ‘Oculoplastic Surgery’. The 2nd edition of this textbook, containing over 1700 colour photographs and original illustrations, which has increased from 350 to 570 pages, is available from December 2010 (published by Informa Healthcare).
He has over 75 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has contributed 5 book chapters. Some examples of his
